Distance Education, Information and Training Infrastructure (DEITI):

Distance Education, Information and Training Infrastructure (DEITI) funded by Distance Education Council (MHRD, Govt. of India) has been operational at the Computer Centre. The set up is meant to cater distance education to the people of Goa through the satellite technology. There are 25 DRS (Direct Reception System) centres set up at selected Colleges and Higher Secondary Schools covering all 12 Talukas. Interaction with the resource person sitting at the University studio takes place through telephones, fax and E-Mail access.

The facility supplements both formal non-formal classroom teaching, provides best quality educational content from all over the country and opportunity to interact with leading academicians, thinkers and decision makers. It is made available for community development programmes by the Govt. and NGOs, training programmes as well as mass awareness programmes for the public, settled even in the remotest part of Goa.

The studio is equipped with the state of the art basic digital audio and video production and editing facilities, the satellite transmitter and two spacious studio halls with proper acoustic treatment.

The studio is also made available on commercial basis for indoor shooting, recording and editing, at the most reasonable rates.

Glimpses of work done:

  • Workshops on basic videography interested in camera handling recording and audio-video editing.
  • Goa Medical College video recorded six live pediatric surgeries and simultaneously projected live for the doctors/ surgeons with interaction while performing the operations
  • Teleconferencing for Governmental and non-governmental organanizations with live interaction facility with resource persons
  • Sarva Shiksha Abiyan to train about 2500 primary teachers of the State. The training was carried out from the DEITI studio in two phases of ten days through its 22 DRS centres with the help of satellite communication (EDUSAT).
  • Produced video content on Physics, Maths, Botany, Chemistry and Computer science for the students appeared for Goa Common Entrance Test (GCET, 2006) for Goa Educational Development Corporation (Govt of Goa).
