View Profile

University Science Instrumentation Centre (USIC) is a central instrumentation facility of the university consisting of Electronics, Mechanical and Glass Blowing workshops managed by faculties, officers and trained technicians. The work undertaken by USIC can be broadly classified as

  • Analytical services for sophisticated instruments,
  • Maintenance of equipment of Language and Science Laboratory,
  • Fabrication of teaching aids,
  • Development of new instruments,

thus covering entire objective of USIC.

Recently Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) has been installed at USIC. This facility can be used for Image morphology of samples, Image compositional and some bonding differences, micro- and nano-lithography and etc. The centre was established in 1990 during Eighth Plan period with an independent building of 250 sq. meters, housing all three workshops. The aim of the Centre is to strengthen the laboratories of user Departments by way of equipment maintenance, calibration of test and measuring instruments, fabrication of gadgets and instruments, attachments required for some imported instrument so as to adapt them to Indian electrical standards, etc.

The Glass Blowing workshop designs and fabricates unique glass apparatus as per the idea (raw design) submitted by researchers. It also assists in repairs of expensive glass apparatus.

Facilities:

  • Carl-Ziess Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM),
  • EDAX facility,
  • High Vacuum Pump station,
  • High Temperature Furnaces,
  • Milling Machine, Lathe Machine,
  • Drilling Machine, etc.
