In collabration with the Directorate of Archives and Archaeology, Government of Goa, the Department organises an annual seminar on a specific theme of History of Goa usually covering the period from ancient to modern. This has resulted in several publications containing the proceedings of these seminars.

Indo-Portuguese History, Maritime Studies and Indian History with a special focus on the History of Goa.
The Department, under the guidance and leadership of the first Vice-Chancellor of Goa University and a reputed Historian Prof. B. Sheik Ali, has organised the Golden Jubilee Year Session (1987) of Indian History Congress. Then Prof. B.S. Shastry was heading the Department. The Department has hosted the XI Annual Conference of Place Names Society of India (1990). It has also organised an International Seminar on Maritime Activities in India with special reference to the Portuguese 1500-1800 (2001) and a National Seminar on History of Goa (2003).
