Goa University has currently (2014-19) been accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) of India with A Grade. NAAC is an autonomous body established by the University Grants Commission (UGC) of India to assess and accredit institutions of higher education.


The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) (an organ of Ministry of Human Resources and Development, Govt. of India) in its cycle of ranking Indian Higher Educational Institutions in the year 2018, ranked Goa University at 68th rank (visit among the Universities.

Among the QS World University Rankings for BRICS countries 2018 Goa University has shown its presence in a group of 201-250 universities. Visit 9th page of the list on to see Goa University in the list. There are about 9000 universities in BRICS countries. 

The News magazines in India conduct such ranking exercise every year. 'India Today' ranked at 22nd level among all Government funded Universities in India in 2018 and among the overall universities 'The Week' ranked us at 43.


The number of programmes and the total student strength at the University campus is on increase. The 26 departments imparting PG education at the University campus harbours about 2000 students today for the PG programmes alone.

The student strength at the affiliated non-professional and professional colleges in 2017-18 was 22776 and 10958 respectively.

There are about 500 students registered for PhD programmes doing their research at the University departments, affiliated colleges and recognized institutions

Publications repository and h-index

The strength of the Goa University lies in the number of research publications and the H-index. Goa University has so far published over 5000 research publications (including PhD theses) and the full-text of these are available at the unique Publications Repository. There are very few state universities in India who have made such an effort in consolidating the information. There is a multi-fold increase in the visibility of the university with its publications on the repository. Current H-index as per the Web of Knowledge database from just 1138 journal publications out of 5000 is 45.
